Thysanoptera of Japan

Scirtothrips katsura Masumoto & Okajima, 2007

This species has been recorded from mountainous area of Gunma and Yamanashi Prefectures at central Honshu so far. It occurs on the leaves of Cercidiphyllum japonicum in May to Jun. It is very similar to S. illicii, which occurs on Illicium anisatum, but it can be distinguished from illicii by the abdominal sternites are covered with the microtrichia more than posterior half except between S1 setae (in illicii, the sternites with the microtrichia not reaching S1 setae, or if reaching S1 setae, the microtrichia near posterior margin).
